For stunning panoramic view, visitors must get out of Sapa and to the Tram Ton Pass. At 1900m, its is the highest pass in Vietnam and is often referred to as Heavens Gate, since its picturesque landscapes and magnificence resemble a gate to the Heaven.
Located 15km from Sapa, Tram Ton Pass is on the way to explore and trek up the far side of Mountain Fansipan and the Hoang Lien Mountain Range.
While Tram Ton Pass is on the road between Sapa and Lai Chau, and even if visitors are not planning to go on further northwest, it might well worth coming up to experience the incredible views from the top of this pass. From a vantage point, it offers an unobstructed view of the magnificent Fansipan on the other side of the valley with immense lush forest, especially on clear days.
Aside from magnificent views, visitors can also witness the bizarre climate change. Through the Sapa side of the mountain the weather is the same, typical climate that more than often attributes to Sapa’s own mysterious atmosphere – cold, misty or even foggy. There might be drizzly rain sometimes on the way up since Tram Ton Pass is at a higher place. However, looking down a few hundred metres below on the Lai Chau side and visitor can see crystal clear, splendidly shining blue sky. Ferocious winds come ripping over the pass due to this temperature differences - Sapa is the coldest place in Vietnam while Lai Chau is the warmest. Tram Ton Pass is the dividing line between two great weather fronts – and it is said that one could literally see the air.

Remember to take warm clothes when visiting since it could be colder than Sapa and quite windy.
Recommend to combine nearby Silver Waterfall (Thac Bac) for a half day trip as the distance is not a big deal.
